Version Tested: 12.0 Frodo
Description:
XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. Currently XBMC can be used to play almost all popular audio and video formats around. It was designed for network playback, so you can stream your multimedia from anywhere in the house or directly from the internet using practically any protocol available. Use your media as-is: XBMC can play CDs and DVDs directly from the disk or image file, almost all popular archive formats from your hard drive, and even files inside ZIP and RAR archives. It will even scan all of your media and automatically create a personalized library complete with box covers, descriptions, and fanart. There are playlist and slideshow functions, a weather forecast feature and many audio visualizations.
Recently XBMC has been ported to android due to the hard work of two full time XBMC developers and it works quite well on the JXD s7300 platform.
The JXD s7300 hard buttons easily navigate and control XBMC. The following buttons are mapped by default.
Up - Navigates up within menu's. Big step forward when playing a video in fullscreen mode.
Down - Navigates down within menu's. Big step backwards when playing a video in fullscreen mode.
Left - Navigates left within menu's. Small step backwards when playing a video in fullscreen mode.
Right - Navigates right within menu's. Small step forward when playing a video in fullscreen mode.
A or B - Cancel
X or Y - Select
Other Notes:
- Works with HDMI output quite well supporting 1080p resolution thoug
- Can stream TV from supported TV tuner software however this has yet to be tested on the JXD s7300.
- Wifi media streaming from a NAS drive works though larger files seem to buffer a bit. May be due to the JXD's wireless card/antenna (other XBMC devices on my network stream better via wifi).
- Had initial volume issues but turns out you need to set up android's main volume (under settings) to maximum.
- Had SMB connectivity issues. Had to click on the SMB network browser a few times before it worked.
